Smart Grid
Smart grid deployments will create new capabilities like time-of-use pricing, much more timely and detailed insight into electricity consumption and cost, and the ability to program certain appliances to respond to price signals. Reliant Energy already leads Texas in bringing the benefits of smart energy technology to consumers with more than 225,000 customers signed up for e-Sense smart energy solutions. When customers sign up to use Reliant e-Sense smart energy solutions, they receive detailed information about how they use electricity so that they can tell their smart devices to run when electricity is more affordable.
More broadly, the smart grid will enable the integration of more intermittent generation sources such as wind and solar and it will establish the technology infrastructure necessary to support an electric vehicle ecosystem.
