Smart Grid
Smart Grid deployments will create new capabilities like time-of-use pricing, much more timely and detailed insight into electricity consumption and cost, and the ability to program certain appliances to respond to price signals. More broadly, the Smart Grid will enable the integration of more intermittent generation sources such as wind and solar and it will establish the technology infrastructure necessary to support an electric vehicle ecosystem. At NRG, our retail team is developing a new time-of-use rate structure that provides customers with an incentive to shift usage to nights and weekends when electricity is cheaper, and an in-home display that provides real-time visibility into how much electricity is being used and how much it is costing.
