Corporate imperative to reduce carbon intensity, RepoweringNRG initiative rationale

At NRG, we believe that global warming is one of the most significant challenges facing humankind—and we want to be a part of the solution. We believe future energy production can be both low carbon and low cost, and we are committed to being among the first power generators to help make this vision a reality. We are not waiting. We are moving clean energy forward now.
Any program to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will include investment in developing and deploying no- and low-carbon technologies. In June 2006, we introduced RepoweringNRG — our program to diversify NRG's existing fuel mix and lead the deployment of no- and low-carbon technologies such as nuclear and renewables such as solar, biomass and wind power.
Equally important as building new, clean generation is equipping existing power plants with additional technologies to reduce emissions. NRG is investing in additional environmental control equipment at our existing facilities, while taking the lead in developing carbon capture strategies.
